Boise Weekly – Exergy Tour T-Shirt Design Contest

Contest has concluded and we’ve announced the winner! Lana Roth of Boise designed this true cycling-inspired tee and it was chosen from a strong field of entries.

The winning design was selected by a panel of judges and will be printed on super soft T-shirts for men, ladies and kids – as part of the official Exergy merchandise program. Additionally, 10% of the proceeds from sales will go to the tour’s charitable partner, the National Association of Girls and Women in Sport.

Tees will be available starting Thursday, May 25th at the daily Expo & Finish Festival and in our online store.

 

THURSDAY, MAY 3

Exergy Tour Commemorative Art Poster Unveiling

In celebration of the upcoming inaugural Exergy Tour in Idaho, Ward Hooper has created a stunning piece to commemorate the occasion.  Thank you to everyone who joined us for the reception. 10% of proceeds from poster sales are going to our Official Charitable Partner, the National Association for Girls and Women in Sport (NAGWS). Posters are available at the Art of Ward Hooper Gallery located at 745 W. Idaho Street in downtown Boise, and will be available online in our Merchandise Store and on-site during the Expo & Finish Festival daily at the Official Exergy Tour Merchandise booth. Posters are 16″ x 24″

 

THURSDAY, MAY 17

Boise Bike Week Block Party at the Linen Building – 5:30pm – 10:00pm

The Treasure Valley Cycling Alliance and the Boise Weekly are holding Boise Bike week from May 14-19, a celebration of all things bike, focused on educating people about biking.  They have a week full of events, which you can view at boisebikeweek.org.

On Thursday May 17th the Exergy Tour will be on-site at their block party at the Linen building, to join local cycling groups, bike crafters, non-profits and government agencies, along with  food trucks, a couple of beer/wine stands and live music starting at 8:00pm with Jonathan Warren and the Billygoats!

We’ll update with more details as they are sent our way – come say hi and learn more about the upcoming Exergy Tour!

p.s. We expect quite a few of the athletes racing in the Exergy Tour will be starting to arrive by then – so look for them at the Exergy Tour booth…

 

SATURDAY, MAY 19

Parade America – 11:00am – Nampa

The Exergy Tour will join the Nampa Bike & Ped Group for the 46th Annual Exchange Club Parade America! The parade will take place Saturday, May 19, 2012 at 11:00AM. The Exchange Club Parade America is one of the largest patriotic celebrations in the State of Idaho. The theme this year is “Land of the Free and Home of the Brave.”

We look forward to celebrating with the Host City for Stage 1 of the Exergy Tour and to encouraging local residents to come out to support the athletes from around the world as they race on the roads in and around Nampa on Friday, May 25th!

 

WEDNESDAY, MAY 23

Walk to London 2012

On Wednesday, May 23, the public is invited to celebrate Olympic spirit and international sport in Idaho, by participating in two events being held in downtown Boise – the Walk to London 2012, and the Exergy Tour ladies pro bike race official team presentation and Olympic celebration. Both events are free and open to the public.

Boise is one of 20 U.S. cities hosting the Walk to London 2012, which commemorates the London Olympics and encourages families to show their support for Team USA by walking as many miles as possible.  Walk to London 2012 events are organized and led by the Olympians and Paralympians who make up the 20 national Olympian Alumni Chapters. The 1.13-mile Boise walk will start on the Greenbelt at 13th street and finish in the Boise Grove Plaza as part of a large Olympic Celebration including the official Team Presentation event for the inaugural Exergy Tour.

Registration for the FREE, non-competitive walk will be from 5 – 5:30 p.m. at the St. Luke’s Shoreline Facility. The walk will begin promptly at 5:45 p.m. at Shoreline Boulevard and 13th Avenue on the Boise River Greenbelt, travel through the Anne Frank Human Rights Memorial, turn north on 8th Street through BODO, and finish on the Grove Plaza.

Olympians and Paralympians will lead the walk and will be recognized on-stage after they enter Grove Plaza. The Exergy Tour celebration will feature international music, dance and the waving of flags from all countries competing in the Exergy Tour. Past and future Olympians competing in the Exergy Tour will also be introduced prior to the Team Presentation.

WEDNESDAY, MAY 23

Team Presentation Event – Boise Grove Plaza

The Exergy Tour Team Presentation is the official kickoff to the five-day, five city Exergy Tour, an international ladies professional cycling race in which top teams from around the world will compete for final international ranking points relative to qualification for the Olympic Games. Connie Carpenter, ladies cycling’s first Olympic Gold Medalist and a two-sport Olympian, will co-host the Team Presentation along with Dave Towle, one of cycling’s preeminent live sport announcers. Both will serve as co-announcers of the Exergy Tour at the start/finish from May 24-28.

  • 5 pm – 7pm:  Festivities in Boise Grove Plaza – live music with the David Andrews Band from 5-6pm, then the welcoming of the Walk to London with the Boise Highlanders and Oinkari Basque Dancers
  • 5:45pm:  Walk to London starts at St. Luke’s Shoreline Facility
  • 6:15pm:  Walk to London finishes in the Boise Grove Plaza
  • 7pm – 9pm:  Exergy Tour Team Presentation

Plan your early evening hours to head down to the first official racing day of the Exergy Tour at the Prologue. This event is an all out effort by these ladies as they race against the clock to establish the fastest time in a short time trial format race. It’s all about the speed here and downtown Boise will set the stage for the next four days of exciting racing! Entertainment and activities at the Expo and Finish Festival provide fun for the whole family.

  • Get your first stamp in your ‘Passport to the Exergy Tour’ at the NAGWS Booth. Find your Passport on pages 31-33 of the Official Spectator Guide.

Stage 1 – Road Race – Nampa – Nampa Rec Center

Some of the most beautiful landscape in Idaho will be highlighted on this demanding course where the riders will race by scenic Lake Lowell, rolling hills and vineyards, along the Snake River, tackle some epic “Queen of the Mountain” climbs and spread the energy and excitement around downtown Nampa. The Expo and Finish Festival at the start/finish line will feature activities and entertainment for the whole family.

Expo Highlights:

  • St. Luke’s Sports Medicine will be fitting and providing free bicycle helmets to the first 100 children ages 5 and under.
  • Zumba Group and Yoga Fitness with Nampa Rec & NAGWS
  • Nampa Fit Studio Hip-Hop Hustle and Turbo-Kick Demo

Stage 2 – Time Trial – Kuna – Downtown Kuna

Expo Opens at 10:00am / Official Rider Sign-In at 10:00am

Race Starts at 11:00am

The fastest girls on bikes will showcase their tenacity and will to win in the time trial. This is where the afterburners kick in and the speeds will astound experienced cyclists and spectators alike. The best of the best including National, World and Olympic Time Trial champions will battle it out on this exciting day of racing. Make a day of it and come down for the Kuna Farmers Market, take in the local flavor and witness world-class cycling competition – a day like never seen before in Kuna!

Expo Highlights:

  • Kuna Farmer’s Market Opens at 9:00am
  • St. Luke’s Sports Medicine will be fitting and providing free bicycle helmets for kids 15 and under. Quantities are limited: first come, first served.
  • Mini sport clinics with NAGWS at the baseball field – soccer, ice hockey, rock climbing and more

Stage 3 – Road Race – Crouch/Garden Valley to Idaho City

Community Breakfast in Crouch at 10:00am

Official Rider Sign-In at 11:00am

Race Starts at 12:00pm

The hills will be alive with serious climbing and team race strategy on the only alpine stage of the 2012 Exergy Tour. We recommend you make the easy drive to Crouch for the late morning community breakfast, enjoy the opening ceremony and then head out ahead of the teams to find a spot on the killer climbs above Lohman. Here you can witness first hand the agonizing action as the ladies race to the top before they descend the harrowing miles to the finish. Bring your noisemakers, cowbells and costumes, and cheer them on as they crest the summit, then follow them down to join in the festivities at the Expo and Finish Festival in Idaho City!

It all comes down to the final day in Boise where the Overall Champion trophy will be awarded, and downtown Boise neighborhoods will come alive with the final day of racing and festivities. Join in the celebration of history being made in Idaho with entertainment and activities for the entire family on Memorial Day.

 

St. Luke’s Children’s Safe Bike Parade! Kids are invited to decorate their bikes and join Maxwell Moose to strut their stuff to the crowd. Helmets are required… if you don’t have one, St. Luke’s will be happy to give you one! Please register between 10:00am and 11:00am at the St. Luke’s Sports Medicine booth at the Exergy Tour Expo & Finish Festival.
